"Do you paint them with cheese?"
We at Creatures of Delight wish it were that easy! The paint we use on our pieces is as unique as our creatures! Due to the flexible nature of the "Rubber Plush" material, and the fact that people like to rough house with many of our creatures, we need to have a strong, flexible paint which comes in infinite colors. Unfortunately we haven't found anything on the market which fits the bill.
Fortunately, in much the same way we invented the material from which we make our characters, we were able to invent a paint for them- a mix of acrylics and latex which when applied in multiple thin coats becomes an opaque, flexible and durable paint finish. The overall creature is sponge painted using small sheets of dacron, in numerous coats. While most colors require an average of four coats of paint, colors such as yellow and orange can take as many as ten. This sponge painting not only provides the color, but due to the high latex content in the paint further strengthens the pieces, and helps hide any seams. Most colors are mixed in batches of one to five gallons.
The pieces are then airbrushed for added detail. They are then ready to have their details hand painted.
Due to the wide range of colors we use on a daily basis we need a large number of small containers for detail painting. Grated cheese containers are the perfect size, and since someone at Creatures seems to put grated cheese on everything, they are in steady supply.
